The Face of Corinth

Night of broken pillars

scalloped limestone falls

amid scattered ruins

Corinth's torn scroll of art

all Greece lies buried

beneath this rubbled world

Blue-glazed slopes, rugged peaks

press against open skies

Aphrodite frolics in the vale

Temple of Apollo shards

open-air housing for the sun

Forum seats turn hard, cold

Gateway to Peloponnese

monoliths of lichened rocks

gulls spiral endlessly for food

Echoes down the vast canal

St. Paul's disquisition on love

measured diet of chiseled stone
